Telkom Orange begun their Title defense by sailing past Chase Bank Newbies Amira in a breathtaking encounter at a fully parked City Park Hockey Stadium. Seasoned forward Audry Omaido opened her 2017 account with a brace before veteran Kenyan International Jacky “Jow” Mwangi replicated last seasons fine form by smashing in the third. The damage would have been worse were it not for the heroics of Amira goal keeper.
Chase Amira, also, showed flashes of brilliance engineered by Harambee Starlets ace Pauline Naise who is making a comeback to hockey after a long sabbatical. Her magical moves could not trouble the Telkom shot stopper who was visibly on holiday. The bankers’ course was further worsened by a disjointed midfield which lacked cohesion and confidence. The Fans were kept off their seats by the individual brilliance of the nimble Telkom players and their seamless one touch passes.
In other Matches played on Saturday, Wazalendo fought back from a two goal deficit to share the spoils with Greensharks in an entertaining flood lights encounter. Earlier, Chase Bank Sailors welcomed Techincal University of Kenya to the Premier League with a two goal drubbing. In the National league, Daystar University scored a stoppage time goal to deny debutants Gorilla Hockey their honeymoon.
