Unbeaten JKUAT break Virgin Vikings

Just one season ago, JKUAT Wildcats were the whipping girls of the Kenya Hockey women’s Premier League. So weak were the girls that they would have lost a match they played against themselves. However, under the stewardship of Kenyan International Sammy Oungo, the girls have turned their fortune from minnows to lethal title contenders. The students seem to have adapted quickily to the quarter system and the playing style introduced by the lanky Kenya Police defender.

On Saturday, the JKUAT ladies maintained their unbeaten record for their sixth match of the season by squeezing a solitary goal past a much more experienced Vikings side. Ivy Kinyua marooned the Vikings defence before slotting home a hard hit short past the Vikings keeper.

Their solid defence manned by Elizabeth “Msito” Okata proved too hard to crack as Vikings failed to marshall any meaningful attack. Msito has exuded confidence that nothing will stop the team from giving the “big girls” a run for their money. ” I am happy the team has grown to maturity. It feels nice to go into a match knowing that we have it.Hockey is becoming sweeter,” she said.

In other matches played on Saturday, Kisumu Youngstars came froma goal down to beat Wazalendo Youth 2 goals to one.

Kakamega based Western Jaguars salvaged a 2 all draw at the buzzer against Chase Sailors.
