Upper Hill seized a second straight victory in the ongoing Brookside Term One secondary schools national games, humbling Thika High 2-0 on Wednesday April 11 at Kangaru School, Embu County.
The win took the Nairobi Champions top of Pool B besides securing them a semifinal spot, even with one match in hand. Upper Hill had on Tuesday beaten Meru School 1-0 and are only waiting for their final pool involvement on Thursday against St. Anthonys. A win or draw tomorrow will sail them to the semis as Pool B leaders.
As Upper Hill celebrated the triumph, Thika High were left mulling over their future in the competition due to two straight defeats. The Central representatives had earlier lost to St. Anthonys by the same margin. Thika, who are now perched bottom of the Pool, face Meru School on Thursday but no result would earn them progress in the tournament.
In another Pool B tie, St. Anthonys and Meru School battled to a one-all draw, an outcome that will push the fight for the remaining semis slot to the final day. St.Anthonys face a tricky test against Pool leaders Upper Hill while Meru School lock horns with lowly Thika.
Musingu, Kisumu Day Shine
In Pool A, Musingu and Kisumu Day made light work of their opponents, Musingu flogging Shimo la Tewa 4-0 while Kisumu Day thrashed hosts Kangaru 3-1. The wins were a second for each side and thus assure them of progress. The two now shift focus to Thursday’s clash which will decide who proceeds as the Pool A top dog.
With nothing to lose, Shimo la Tewa and Kangaru are also set for an intense battle on Thursday, with the winner bowing out of the tournament heads high with atleast one win.
